Dashboard Confessional fans will get a dose of frontman Chris Carrabba’s moody melodies and heart-on-sleeve lyrics when the emo outfit hits the road this summer for six weeks, beginning June 30th in Toronto. Pre-tour, Dashboard will visit several radio festivals — including Irvine, California’s KROQ Weenie Roast and Columbia, Maryland’s HFStival — to give audiences a taste of some long-awaited new songs.
The summer trek — with support from Aussie singer-songwriter Ben Lee and emo punks Say Anything — launches three days after the release of Dashboard’s fifth studio album, Dusk and Summer. The band recorded the new material with Don Gilmore (Pearl Jam, Linkin Park), as well as Daniel Lanois (Bob Dylan and U2).
Tracks on Dusk and Summer include “Heaven Here” and “Don’t Wait,” which came to Carrabba one night after a show. “I walked offstage and wrote the song,” he told Rolling Stone about the single. “I was really drawing on that energy.” Carrabba, when he hits dates this summer in cities like Las Vegas and Milwaukee, will no doubt tap whole new reservoirs of energy.
